5K Run To Help Raise Money For Tex Randall Happening in April in Canyon

When you come into the county seat of Randall County and get on the highway heading towards Hereford you will see a cowboy statue like the one up top. Tex Randall has been the mascot of Canyon for a long time and has shown the cowboy heritage that the Panhandle is known for. When I was growing up I saw this statue every time we pulled into my hometown and I always put a smile on my face every time. Back in the day you had a restaurant underneath the icon that served BBQ type food to visitors with the hospitality that comes from the Lone Star State.

Over the years Tex has underwent several updates on the paint that eventually began to fade and other features that are also a part of the tourist landmark. The community has asked the public for help with numerous fundraisers to raise funds for the entire reconstruction of the Tex statue so it looks like new again. Coming up in late April there will be a benefit 5K run called “Giddy Up For Tex” and it will be held at Neblett Park just off of U.S. 60. To enter in the race they recommend getting reservations as soon as you can because spots are filling up quick. Important: Check to See about COVID protocols for social distancing and mask wearing. If you are a fan of running marathons and have a fast game in your step this is a good way to support a good cause.

There will be food and drinks of all kinds for people who do not want to run and come to just watch the other contestants show what they can do. The only charge will be to participate and for tickets to get in and the other benefits will be free to the public and you will need to bring your own seating if you would rather not stand at the event.

It will start at 10AM and go until the route comes all the way back around to the park. From what I saw this route will include neighborhoods by the Square on 4th Avenue. It will be at least 10 blocks long and will encompass most of the City of Canyon.
