Amarillo College has received a grant to remodel the Carter Fitness Center. The building has already been torn out on the inside and the new amenities are still being put in place. The college says this new remodel will bring changes that will hardly be recognized by students. The plan is to have a new team dedicated to AC inter mural sports that has not been at the college since the 80s.

This will give students an opportunity to branch out on the choices made when athletics is included in class schedules. Even though Amarillo College is a junior college it can still have the opportunities given in a university to a point since there will be a major sports team at the end of this renovation. The building will have two stories so that more seating can be accommodated for students and staff. I would like to see a video scoreboard added to the new layout to give sports watchers a close up view of players who are on the court. The cool thing about this new facility is the brand new look and space available to students who are either going to classes or just looking for something fun to do on a day off. The hours of this new place will be posted at a later date.

The planned date to have this open ranges somewhere in Fall 2022 with other buildings on the Washington Street campus to follow. I like to see news like this because I have history of going to class at this campus. Recent updates have made AC stand out more as a continued education institution and future colleagues will appreciate the nice amenities. The next building to be renovated has a number of historical years with AC and is only looking to be changed on the inside while keeping the same look on the outside of the property.

Here’s to hoping a better place in Carter Fitness Center serves the student body well.
