APD is making the public aware of a phone scam going around in the Texas Panhandle. Officials say the callers are pretending to be law enforcement personnel from Randall County telling victims they had failed to appear in court and informs them that a search warrant is being issued.

The caller ID in the received notifications uses local numbers to make it look like a real person from the sheriff’s office is calling and informing the person in question. Part of the scam involves having to pay a fee over the phone and APD wants the public to know that no one will call anyone and deal with warrants or legal matters by calling the person directly.

Scammers are known to trick you into thinking this is true so if you receive one of these calls hang up and call the sheriff’s department number to make sure.

APD also reminds you that if you have someone at your door that you don’t know do not come and answer it. For more information call 806-378-3038.
