Amarillo has seen tremendous growth over the past decade or so with new companies bringing restaurants and other establishments into the city. In the most recent times certain things have been considered in order to better the community as a tourist destination for people to come through and spend the night on vacation for a couple days to a week.

Center city has a plan in place to paint a water tower downtown with a Route 66 emblem to represent the history of the Mother Road and what makes Amarillo a spot on the map. The Route 66 association of Amarillo is asking for the public’s help to donate to the charity that is helping raise funds to make this project possible. All you have to do is visit the website to donate, to reach the goal they need to raise $18,000 and the deadline to get involved is September 30th of this year. That gives you a lot of time to help out and make downtown an iconic place to be in the Panhandle region. I have some Route 66 themed items in my house that are hanging up and to see this taking place makes me aware of how my hometown is gaining traction to be better at showing heritage of the area.

In the future I hope to see this new tower as I am passing through or still living in the town I grew up in. By then road trips might be something I use with my free time and going to see this new logo would definitely be worthy of a nice photo. The Texas Panhandle is always considered a common place on the road trips people take a cross the country so we have things like the 72OZ Big Texan attraction and also a motel which is owned be the same company.

Good luck to the Route 66 Association on this project.
