Radio in Philadelphia has one station moving closer to the Hot AC competition and away from Top 40 leanings. Finding a niche in the broadcast market is something radio stations do to enhance audience engagement so the company can create revenue off of Nielsen ratings. The station in Philadelphia is WTDY-FM and the format of Variety aims to attract listeners that are big fans of today's current pop hits with a dash of rock thrown in as well. The old Top 40 format was known as "96.5 TDY" and featured artists like Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran while the other new format will focus on more Contemporary artists like Edwin McCain and others like this artist.

The new station aims to connect with the younger generation of music listeners by providing a hub for both old and new trending bands that make a debut before albums are released to the public. The lineup includes DJS that relate content to this genre and include a background of the story while writing a song so listeners could know what a song really represents while listening to lyrics. I wonder what type of morning show the owners will bring to the station. Kidd Kraddick seems like a great option but that's just my opinion.

The community has a driven value in this city to tell the staff what they want in terms of the radio outlook on the future of programming on the air. I hope community can benefit from this change to the radio station.
