The American Indian tribes are an important part to our history and our ancestors have blood lines that trace back to the Comanche and Apache among other names. The tribes would travel across different U.S. territories and do PowWows to live the tradition of what these tribes did in the past. Different dances were at these events to all kinds of native music that helped to make the Indian history and ancestry what it is today. If you went up to the Texas Panhandle in the 1800s you would see the Comanche Indian tribe roaming the plains across different types of terrain and they would also hold to the Indian Pow Wow dance tradition and bring it to what is known as the Golden Spread. If you remember Quanah Parker from Texas History you know that he was part of the tribe that crossed through the area of the Rolling Plains. His journey led to a battle that took place in this area as a member of the Comanche Indians. Other places you might see Powwows and other traditional things are the states of Oklahoma and New Mexico.

The reason they call Oklahoma Native America is because while you are traveling the state you are likely to see jurisdictions of reservations while heading down a road in the middle of the country. I remember going to a lake one Summer on vacation and I came across an Indian reservation going to Fort Cobb Lake. It occurred to me that somewhere in the past tribes would settle in the lands I went through in probably the 1800s. Indian ancestry is an important thing in the human history because they basically made the next generation better in a culture of music and dancing.

When cold weather came the Indians would use the warm clothing that they made from the resources found on the reservation grounds to keep warm. Making fires usually involved grabbing sticks and twigs to burn along with other types of wood found as well. If I put myself in this time I bet surviving on what was in the wild would be something I would do with my fellow tribe members. After a Powwow dance around the fire I would go with a pack and a bow and arrow to find food to bring back to the camp and use as a meal after skinning the animal.

Hunting and gathering helped our ancestors survive in the current times where there was no such thing as running to the store to get your meal for the morning or evening. This was important for the tribes to sustain themselves so they didn’t go hungry. Campgrounds would be stocked with things used to cut the meat out of what was hunted like knives and sticks. The Indians were expected to know this so that they could pass this skill on to the next generation that comes after. Hopefully we still treasure the history of these people for years to come.
