One of the recreational activities that I enjoy being a part of is hunting in the winter months so I can put food on the table that is fresh from the field.

It's an annual thing that me and my Dad do every November.

Back in 2009, I went down to my Aunt and Uncle's property in rural Collingsworth County Texas, we stayed for about four nights and on the first night we didn't have much luck, so we tried the next morning and Dad got one, I took a shot after waiting several hours because that's of course the way you do ethical hunting.

It is a passion of getting a clean kill and you want to make sure you shoot your gun in just the right location so as to not let the animal suffer or spoil any meat because you don't want to leave your kill behind.

So I apply this knowledge knowing any deer I shoot I will do something with whether it's using it for meat on the table or maybe a rug or some kind of decoration around my house such as a pair of antlers like these.

I've got a couple sets at my lake house, they are on the table in our living room, you can tell from the shape they came from a buck.

Back to my hunting story, around the last half of my trip we went out to the field in the morning and waited a maximum of 3 hours before we started seeing anything. When we did I took a shot and hit on the side of the deer, so we went to go check and it was on the ground. I was proud of myself.

So dad takes a picture of me and then we get all of the straps out and a bucket to put under my deer, I help my dad crank it up so he can start skinning it to get the meat off, I helped by keeping the deer stable so it wouldn't move around too much.

We roughly got 5 back straps, some ground and a neck roast off to put in the cooler to take back home with us.

That's how I got my first kill going deer hunting. I hope to have more luck like this in the future.

Until then, thanks for reading.
