If you were growing up in the 70s and 80s you most likely remember the show “WKRP in Cincinnati ” being a mainstay on TV. The series was on CBS in it’s original run of roughly four years of seasons. Then there was a spinoff that began in the 90s and ended in the early to mid 2000s.

My favorite hobby and future career is influenced by this show because I get to see how the workings of a radio station take place when you are in the sales cubicle or on air doing a live show. Even though the station is fictional the story is based on real life events in the radio workplace. It’s good for me to get some exposure to this so I know what to expect. I get to see how working with commercial sales clients keeps the station on the air and profitable for listeners.

If you are aware of the nature of this business you would know promotions are what drives audience engagement and this show lets you see live on location and contests and the importance of this activity on the image of the community when it comes to a product you are trying to sell listeners. Think of this as a grocery store for entertainment in which your listeners are your customers and the product is your station. Listeners are the ones that keep the talk show or music spinning on the shows everyday through an audience that engages with the community.

The TV show gives you an inside look at this and you can get the episodes on Amazon Prime by following this link.
Happy listening
