If you have never had a breakfast pizza before this might be your chance to try something different if any of your Spring or Summer trips have Iowa in the plans. When I was growing up Fruit Loops were a staple cereal that I would have on mornings I had school since I usually got up pretty early. Fong’s Pizzeria is the Restaurant that considered adding this unique item to the breakfast menu.

The item had actually been around for about five or six years as sort of a trial run to gain publicity and bring in profit for the Des Moines pizza chain. The toppings consist of a cream cheese base, mozzarella cheese, condensed milk and of course Fruit Loops to top it off. I’ll be honest in my opinion here if it were me trying this I would ask to skip the cheese all together and just leave the other ingredients. Cheese and breakfast cereal just don’t go well with this product.

Twitter has been hit with controversial reviews over this with comments like “Don’t Defeat the Purpose of Pizza” and “I love Pizza and this Iconic Cereal but this is Not a Good Idea”. Now there is such thing as a breakfast pizza but the toppings are mostly whipped cream or anything that is sweet. Savory flavors include cheese and you wouldn’t put that with icing or ice cream as it just doesn’t make sense.

I can see the people who enjoy sweet and savory but honestly believe this should be confined to things like putting Honey Mustard with crackers instead of condensed milk with cheese. Even though we like our pizzas in a unique way I would pass on just the mozzarella in favor of a replacement topping that goes well like maybe some Oreo pieces because after all we are doing breakfast here and not lunch. According to Fong‘s management the new product is just a way to be able to cater to a unique community of consumers in a way that is satisfying.

Breakfast pizza could even include toppings like hash browns and bacon bits and you could sort of have the ingredients you would get from say a casserole or something similar to that. Spinach could even be an option if you want because that sometimes is found in breakfast items that include sausage and things like that.
