To start off we will say that as American citizens there are certain responsibilities when we get to be adults and contribute everyday out in our community. One of these things is showing up to a jury summons if called upon for service because according to the law if you fail to report you can be fined and even go to jail. I have received around three summons letters and have never had to show up or serve on the panel but that doesn't mean that it won't happen in the future. If it does then doing what's right and informing your employer is the first thing that should happen so they are made aware.

In a situation where you do get a summons in the mail what you need to do is check your county website to see if your summons number is set to show up at the courthouse in your area of residence. If your number is listed as mandatory attendance then you must make an appearance on the panel. If you are listed as excused then you can wait until you are summoned again in the future.

During a trial you get to hear about a viewpoint from the defendant and see if the judge should declare this person guilty or not guilty and whether or not to place charges. The case could be any topic relating to legal proceedings.

Be sure to check and follow directions so you don't get caught for not following the law.
