If you are a student going through the phase of transitioning from high school to college there are things that you should do ahead of time to make sure you're prepared for that next step in your education career.

Be sure to check on available scholarships

If you are planning to attend college in the near future do some research and see what is available to help out with tuition costs for classes in a semester. I was able to get help through the LITE scholarship which stands for living independently through education and my courses cost a lot less through the aid of this program. To get the scoop on what is offered at your specific institution get in touch with staff to see what is best suited for you.

Decide whether or not you need accommodations and plan accordingly

If you need any modifications to a classroom setting such as a scribe or a tutor for classes that are difficult to grasp be sure and make a plan to make these resources available. I had to have a few tutoring sessions with my math classes because I am weak in this subject especially algebra. Many colleges and universities offer programs regarding online or in person counseling to help get your grades up to the passing range.

Get the Required materials for your Course Ahead of time

Check the syllabus of the particular class that you are taking and know what your instructor wants before the first lecture day. I made sure that this was done when my schedule was given to be after paying tuition for the semester. Being prepared is the first step towards a great college experience.

Get in the habit of being organized with your work

The best thing to do when you're keeping up with a lot of papers involves creating a place for every subject that you are enrolled in. This helps to not lose any of your notes that you need for homework or other assignments during class. I kept a color coded set of sections that would help direct me to the right topic for the day.

Those are some things to keep in mind while getting ready to start a college semester. Here is a website with some ideas and resources
