My Experience Having Braces During Teen Years

When I was in my Junior High years as a 13 year old correcting my bite became a priority and most people as you would expect who need braces get them during the early to mid teen years. The way they work is you have a licensed Orthodontist put a set of wires on your top and bottom teeth, these wires have bands that are installed between the enamel and the metal wires, these act with a force to make the bite of the teeth even instead of crooked. I had what’s called a David Letterman gap on my top teeth where the two front ones were separated from each other so you could see an opening in between them. My dentist referred me to Dr. Sparkman and he took good care of me so I was comforted knowing he was very professional in the work that he does, I know God had a plan to get a awesome white smile with safety in mind.

When the procedure was done I was instructed to not eat any hard foods or gummy type snacks and to also wear bands at night to aid with the movement and straightening, a handful of times I had cravings to reach for these items but also in the back of my mind I knew everything would be better in the future. Time went on and as it did my teeth became straighter and straighter until I finally was able to get them off a year down the road, I still have placeholders on the bottom and top that are permanent but I now have a nice handsome smile and looking back I knew it was worth going through this. My advice to anyone who either has or has had braces is to be sure and brush them often so you do not end up tasting metal in your mouth as I have experienced that during my time.

If you would like some more tips and information on what to expect if you need to get braces I recommend going to Youtube and searching through some videos, I’m sure there are plenty out there to choose from.
Until Next Time
