News Anchor in Virginia Makes Slip Up While Doing a News Story Back in 2016

If you watched the national news five years ago you might remember hearing about a news anchor that was doing a story on a slow cooker recall when a typo left him to being a internet sensation. Occasionally the script writers behind the scenes may miss a letter or two in a word while editing for putting a news piece on the air at a TV station. What might happen is this may go unnoticed when reading off of a teleprompter.

That is exactly what happened at NBC12 Virginia, anchor Erick Phillips did not catch a missing R in the word pantries. This led to his coanchor laughing hard and telling him she was sorry she didn’t realize the mistake was right there. This proves one letter in a word can make all the difference while being on air.

In my opinion if I was working for this TV station I would make management aware of the issue and take it to the proofreading team and then make sure next time everything is looked over at least two times before a newscast. I took my college class to learn how to write this and my professor went into detail on how to spot mistakes and take cues to correct them. Being a student reporter I knew how important that was because it is a professional trait that companies look for in a resume.
