If you hear people talk about the state of Oklahoma you probably are familiar with it being known as “Tornado Alley”, the reason this region receives this nickname is because of the powerful twisters that are known to rip through.
Meteorologists say that the reason this happens often during the Summer months is because of high humidity values in the area, that in turn creates favorable conditions for tornadoes up to the F5 range. I live in an area of wide open country and have definitely seen my share of these storms and the devastation they cause, when this happens several organizations including the American Red Cross help to rebuild communities and help residents find somewhere to stay until they can get another house. I see it as a great thing especially when things like this happen, their is definitely a good turnout the majority of the time, neighbors quickly find places to stay and everything is good.
One thing I know for sure is possessions can be replaced but not the lives of loved ones, moisture is good don’t get me wrong but when it involves tornadoes it can definitely get serious, my tip to who reads this blog is to stay up to date via TV and radio stations in local markets. Something I find pretty cool is one of my local broadcast meteorologists actually grew up in Oklahoma and lived through the Summer Twisters there, he has even shared stories on air about his experience.
Be sure to stay safe this storm season!!
