If you're kids are into dinosaur themed events you can take them to Dino Days next month at the Panhandle Plains Museum. This activity lets your child interact with the artifacts within the room and learn about archaeology and have a chance to explore wildlife by viewing real live animals with their own eyes which provides a hands on experience in education of the natural environment that species of animals thrive in. PPHM has hosted other exhibits like this in the past that also feature interactive activities that make the learning experience a fun and rewarding opportunity for students in a classroom environment especially if it involves the history of animal science and is part of an analysis for an assessment. I actually remember taking a field trip here back in the day to learn about the historical significance of natives to Amarica in wars and battles for freedom.

The event takes place on Saturday October 7th from 2 to 5 PM and general admission is $5 to get in. This is in recognition of National Archeology Month which is in October. Most fossils found in history museums are at least 2000 years old because the population of dinosaurs has been extinct for years. Be sure to have your child or student bring comfortable shoes so that they don't have feet that ache after a lot of walking. I would also recommend bringing water to stay hydrated and drinking it before entering the facility as no food or drinks are allowed inside the show rooms. Those things I mentioned are important to remember when visiting not just PPHM but other museums as well like the ones you visit on a trip to somewhere.

I have known Canyon's museum ever since I was old enough to go in to a local historical marker and see the different types of exhibits within the facility that talk about the Panhandle and it's background in different industries within the local area. Palo Duro Canyon is mentioned and there are many places around this museum that talk about the many explorers that came through the Plains region.

These explorers include Quanah Parker and Charles Goodnight among others so if you have spare time in your schedule head on out to this with your family or friends and see if you learn anything new.

The museum is located at 2503 4th Avenue in Canyon and if you want to stay up to date on future happenings you can follow this link. You can also call 806-651-2244 if you're traveling and need a map or directions.
