Have you ever walked around a store and saw somebody who looked like they were about to take something and run off? That is what shoplifting is and it can happen in any retailer nationwide. Basically the person who takes a product from a shelf and leaves without paying for any merchandise in hand is what management and employees should keep a sharp eye on. There are ways to promote stopping this activity before it gets worse and this could be things like providing customer service to the suspicious person as a distraction from stealing. What the best option might be is to ask if they need help with bags or loading anything into their vehicle especially when the merchandise is over 40 pounds. These are only some steps that can be taken to minimize shoplifting risk. It’s best to have a door host at every entrance across the store to help protect against theft as they usually hold the responsibility of checking for receipts as proof of payment.

The things I have mentioned are all ways to help stop retail theft from happening all the time, sometimes I look around and see a suspicious customer where I work and from experience there are people out there who act like they are not going to steal anything and that payment will occur and yet that same person may not stop at a register and leave without warning. Modern stores have started putting in checkpoints and advanced security systems that send information back to management offices and even the corporate side of the store to help track down who caused the theft and request a search for who stole the items. There is a reason that retail giants have door greeters at each door to check on proof of payment.

Once the suspect has been apprehended the case comes to a close and management may have a meeting with team members on the subject of theft. A store's income depends upon if a shopper actually pays for something after a visit. I always have a way of going about this by asking if a shopper has proof of purchase before walking out the door. Minimizing risk is a part of keeping income booming in retail.

What types of ways do you think should be adopted to help stop shoplifting?
