The 1990s were a memorable decade for things like the CD and the first generation of the internet with dial up from our phone company using Juno or AOL. Below is a list I have compiled on things we miss from the decade when Grunge was most popular on radio stations in America.

  • TV Shows-There was a time when shows had to be watched on a schedule that you had to wait for instead of binge channels on streaming. I remember the guide on cable would have to spin around over and over fully before a channel could be looked at on listings.

  • Video store-Gone are the days of Blockbuster and Movie Gallery but it was something going in there to rent the latest movies before the age of Prime and Netflix. I had a Hastings with a coffee shop in my community.

  • Dial up internet-The phrase “Hey I’m using the phone” meant that your family was about to make a phone call so it was a call to get off the internet. I remember my family had a WebTV that connected to the first generation of smart TVs.

  • Saturday morning cartoons-This decade became a memorable experience for things like Looney Tunes and other programs like it. I remember a block called “Nick on CBS” which catered to people without cable who wanted to watch what was on the network.
