Roses are symbols of love and happiness while keeping lawns beautiful during the Spring and Summer months, according to the University of Illinois the Rose is at least 35 million years old and symbolizes war as well. The ancient Romans have used this flower as a way to shower guests in the 1st Century when Emperor dumped rose pedals while serving dinner at his castle as a way of celebration. If we trace this to modern times for annual holidays Valentines Day comes to mind since have become a staple in the celebrated American day of love and couples.
In Greek Mythology the legend has it that one of the princesses in a city turned into a rose after being given a handful of them, I find it interesting even though its a myth because it makes me wonder what would happen after someone found a random bush of Roses on the ground. In wartimes soldiers would use the scent from Roses to fend off enemies they were trying to fight so it would serve as kind of a distraction from what the main objective is, I know for a fact that they have a strong smell so you can easily know if they are nearby.
That‘s just some of the history behind the beauty of rose flowers. I can’t wait for Spring!!
