If you are a fan of flight check out this area in Eastern New Mexico near Clovis.

It is on my bucket list to go and see what happens at this place, I am going to share some history behind how it came to be. General John K. Cannon was a pilot and that’s how the base got named after him to honor his work, the real story begins in the late 1920s when Portair Field was established as a passenger airbase at the location. This had transcontinental type planes that flew passengers in a Ford Trimoter back whenever the car and truck auto company made planes for use in certain travel situations. I am suddenly picturing a plane version of what the auto maker may have been thinking for the future, for instance if you have flying cars by the year 2023 maybe people would like faster transportation to and from a destination.

Dozens of ospreys have flown from this base as part of testing new hardware for better flight patterns. These planes are mostly used for battles and transporting injured people to a facility where they can get better, when I am outside I sometimes catch them flying overhead possibly heading to Bell Helicopter or another place for flights. In the 1940s during World War II these were common for the war and equipment on the planes consisted of different types of weapons to use against enemies in disabling the other planes and rendering them useless.

I am confident the Cannon Air Base will continue to serve and accommodate a piece of history for a long time, we will see what the future holds for this treasure of Eastern New Mexico.
