It was my Senior year of High School and I needed one more year before graduating as the Class of 2014.
I took several elective courses that consisted of things in the technology field like Programming and Web Design, and then I took a business class which taught me about the everyday essentials of running one for myself. During my Entrepreneurship class we did several projects relating to stuff like working with balance sheets and keeping up with the changing conditions of the environment of a company. I got to get up and give a group presentation to my class covering results of our chosen marketing style. It was a fun time and a good opportunity to network with awesome classmates who make the learning process a lot more involved and interesting.
The opportunity to work in the student run school store called The Eagle’s Nest gave me hands on experience with the inside workings of a real retail experience, it taught me how to work with customers and even help them find different types of school spirit items. The prices for these ran anywhere from $1 to $10 with the cheapest items being gum and candy. The community was able to get a glimpse through my local ABC affiliate doing interviews with the students and the Manager who also was learning for the first time the running of a real business. These are real world opportunities that are needed when not only working in the service industry but also helps just with everyday life in general.
My favorite part of this experience was working the school store and the activities I did to supplement my class, my teacher was extremely helpful when I was doing assignments and every one of them I saw through to the end. If I could go back and do this experience again I would see if opening and closing positions would be available but of course I have now moved in to another chapter in my life. Hopefully in my next college classes when I finally go back can be some other business classes that go in-depth about the way a company works.
We will see how the future pans out but I know my family is proud of me for my accomplishments so far.
